Achieve Progress When You Don't Have the Time

Many people get stuck because they feel they don't have time to "really take action." When you use the following three principles, you can make progress on the path to your dreams come true.
Here are the three principles:
- Set a Criteria for Excellence
- Set a Plan to Graduate to Different Levels
- Target Bringing the Safety Net Up With You
1. Set a Criteria for Excellence.
This month, I do not have time for a long article. But that won't stop me from writing something that provides excellent value for my readers. So when I set a Criteria for Excellence, I can release myself from any preconceived requirements or perfectionism. Here is my Criteria of Excellence for this article:
- Focus on three important principles
- Provide a paragraph that clearly expresses the point of each principle.
- Get this done today.
2. Set a Plan to Graduate to Different Levels
Don't just sit there. Do something to help your career -- AND use strategy. For example, a speaker can set up a plan to do things on 3 levels:
- Level One: complete an audio recording of a speech on audiotape (her first product)
- Level Two: have the speech edited as a CD audio program
- Level Three: in a 2nd edition of the CD audio program, add music and a brief preview of her next program (the brief preview serves like a commercial).
The point is: the speaker may not have the money or time to do a CD on the scale of Level Three this month. But she can get started at Level One. Similarly, imagine how good you'll feel when you say to a loved one: "Today, I 'graduated' to the next level in my work." This is incremental progress.
3. Target Bringing the Safety Net Up With You
One of my clients lamented: "I'm afraid to do that project because the higher I go - the higher I have to fall." I responded: "We'll find a way to bring the safety net up with you." My client expressed a big sigh of relief. For example, if a speaker was afraid of putting too much money into an audio project, she could make 3 copies just before her next speech and discover if any of them sold. Then, she would have a small market-test to see if the title was effective or not.
Conclusion
Set a Criteria of Excellence and target something you can do today and this week. Learn to let go of perfectionism and embrace excellence. Success goes to the proactive person. And by the way, I feel terrific that I wrote this brief article. I wish you the same good feelings. Please view the resource below to help you in creating the life you really want.
A good journey to you,
Tom
